Gallid herpesvirus 1 (Infectious laryngotracheitis virus)

Causes the disease Infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT) in chickens and other members of the pheasant family. This disease causes inflammation of the larynx and tracheae, which results in the bird coughing, sneezing and having difficulty in breathing. There is a discharge from the eyes (which get swollen) and nostrils, as well as head shaking and lethargy.

Infectious laryngotracheitis is regarding as a serious poultry disease that can cause mortality. It occurs in southern Africa.
