About 1000 species (pantropical), with seven species native to southern Africa and an additional nine species that are cultivated in southern Africa.

Peperomia bangroana

Native distribution extends from West Africa to Ethiopia and southwards to southern Africa where it occurs in Zimbabwe and South Africa (KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape). It also includes Madagascar and the Comores.

Peperomia blanda

Distribution in southern Africa includes Swaziland and South Africa (Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape).

 

Peperomia exigua

Native distribution extends across tropical Africa, extending to Zimbabwe and Mozambique. See Flora of Zimbabwe.

 

Peperomia molleri

Native distribution extends from West Africa to southern Sudan and southwards through East Africa to as far as Zimbabwe.

 

Peperomia pellucida

Native distribution extends from West Africa to Ethiopia and southwards to Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

 

Peperomia retusa

Distribution in southern Africa includes Swaziland and South Africa (Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape).

Peperomia tetraphylla

Native distribution covers most of subSaharan Africa and in southern Africa it occurs in Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Swaziland and South Africa (Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West, Gauteng, KwaZulu- Natal and Western Cape).
