Eighteen genera and about 65 species (mainly neotropical, also Old World and temperate regions), with three genera and eight species native to southern Africa, an additional genus and three species that are naturalised, and another species that is cultivated in the region.

Three to five species (South America and tropical Africa), of which one, Hilleria latifolia, is native to southern Africa.

Four species (Africa), all of which are native to southern Africa.

 

Phytolacca

About 25 species (tropical and subtropical regions), with three species native to southern Africa and two that are naturalised in the region.

Rivina

One species: Rivina humilis (Coral berry), orginates from tropical and subtropical America and is a declared Category 1 invasive plant in South Africa. See Flora of Zimbabwe.
