Fourteen species, native mainly to the American tropics but with one species also native to East Africa, Madgascar and Mauritius. Two species are cultivated in southern Africa.

Native from Mexico to Brazil.

 

Hymenaea verrucosa (East African copal, Madagascar copal)

Native to tropical Africa, Madgascar and Mauritius.
