Pyrostegia venusta (Flame vine, Golden shower)

Life > eukaryotes > Archaeoplastida > Chloroplastida > Charophyta > Streptophytina > Plantae (land plants) > Tracheophyta (vascular plants) > Euphyllophyta > Lignophyta (woody plants) > Spermatophyta (seed plants) > Angiospermae (flowering plants) > Eudicotyledons > Core Eudicots > Asterids > Euasterid I > Order: Lamiales > Family: Bignoniaceae

Pyrostegia venusta creepers growing along Cape Town streets. Bottom left image shows Apis mellifera (Honeybee) at entrance to flower. These bees were going down into the tubes to collect nectar. They also tried to break into the tube near the base but I did not see any that were successful. [photos H. Robertson ©]

Native to Brazil and Paraguay. Cultivated in southern Africa.
