Gaerdes, Fritz (1892-1975)

Amateur insect collector in Namibia who spent most of his life as a school teacher in Okahandja.

His specimens are housed in a number of museums including National Museum of Namibia, Transvaal Museum and Iziko SA Museum (a few). See Marais, E. 1990. Rostrum 25: 1; Cimbebasia 14: ?.

29 Visited his brother in South West Africa and decided to stay. Spent most of his life as a school teacher in Okahandja. Collected around Okahandja, on his brother's farm Kalidona and in the northern Kaokoveld and Okavango.

1975

83 Died. Part of his collection donated to the State Museum, Windhoek.
