Adult stratiomyid flies are often found on flowers, foraging for nectar. Larvae are mainly scavengers, found in a wide variety of moist habitats, including leaf litter, rotten wood and locations near water. A total of 104 species have been recorded from South Africa (SA Animal Checklist).
