Distribution and habitat

Mainly occurs in north-eastern Africa from Somalia to Tanzania, however it is a rare vagrant to southern Africa, with with five records from the Kruger National Park and Gauteng, South Africa as well as one in eastern Zimbabwe. It generally prefers arid to semi-arid grassland with scattered trees.
