The family is endemic to Africa and there are two species:
(1) the Northern (Abyssinian) ground-hornbill Bucorvus abyssinicus, which
occurs from Senegal in the west, across the Sahel to Ethiopia in the east; and
(2) the Southern ground-hornbill Bucorvus
leadbeateri, which occurs in southern and east Africa.
