This attractive psammophilous scorpion occurs in the sand dunes of the southern Namib where it constructs multi-directional borrows up to 750mm below the surface. Females do not appear to wander from their burrows while males are the ones caught moving about at night. Opistophthalmus adustus is restricted to north of the Orange River and has not been found in South Africa.
